Making the Move to New Grounds

Haven’t we all dreamed of living in an exotic place away from the norm that we have known all our lives? Whether you are just leaving your parents nest, looking for a new start in life, or your job just happens to take you away, making the move to new grounds can be equally exciting and challenging.

Will I be happy once I get there? That’s the biggest question that needs careful thought and planning on your part. Following are a few simple tips to help you in choosing the right destination to help avoid having regrets once you’ve made the move.

1) Geographical Area: The area which you choose to live should be one where you feel rejuvenated and alive. If you love the mountains live there; if you love the ocean live there; if you love the desert live there. Live where you love it best.

2) Income: Can I make the income for the lifestyle I desire? If you have the ability to earn an income to support yourself at the level you desire then you’re headed on the right track. However, money isn’t everything. When you actually like your job and the people you work with then you are doing well. When searching for a new job it is a good idea to talk with potential future associates to get an idea of the working environment.

3) Safety: Being safe in your living environment is crucial to your wellbeing and ability to relax in your own atmosphere. If you don’t personally know someone living in the area, you may want to talk with the local law enforcement to help answers questions about the safety and security of the area.

4) Activities: Does the area offer the religious, arts, entertainment, social groups, sport activities, restaurants you enjoy? Some areas may be more prolific than others in offering the activities that you desire most where others may not offer any at all. Be sure and make a check list of all the activities you desire and inquire before making your move.

5) Family and Friends: Having family and friends nearby is a definite plus. However, if you are out there all alone and tend to get homesick, make sure that you will have the ability to get back home when you feel the urge.

6) Social Offerings: If you don’t know anyone in the area it is a good idea to find out if there are people in your social group in your area. Talking with neighbors in the area you are seeking to move is a great resource for finding people of your like interest.

7) Renting vs. Buying: Before moving to a new area it is a good idea to consider renting a place for at least six months in order to get to know the area better. Many people often buy a home and later discover that they would have much preferred living across town or some other scenario. Before staking your ground, just put up a temporary living quarters until you’ve decided that making the move was right for you.

For some people the grass is definitely greener elsewhere; for others it is just not the color they had envisioned. Making the most of life is what is truly important and however or wherever you choose to do so is totally up to what is best for you. When you find true happiness that is truly a blessing and to be able to make a fresh start, whether you move or not, well that’s an adventure worth seeking.
