Have You Taken These Asthma Avoidance Steps Yet?

Every year in America over 5,000 people die from asthma. Asthma has been afflicting people to the current tune of over 17 million Americans. Asthma attacks can and do occur at random times so it is wise to be prepared with the appropriate medication.

For most people suffering with asthma they can still lead busy and productive lives. How? By seeing a physician or health care provider that will work with them in creating and implementing an asthma control plan. The key here is being proactive rather than reacting when its to late. Waiting for an asthma attack to occur before thinking about what to do is many times untimely.

When you have an asthma attack your lungs begin to get tighter. That is they close down the amount of air you can inspire. This often leads to coughing, wheezing and chest tightness. Almost as if an elephant were sitting on your chest and of course you could not breathe.

There are some measures that could be used to avoid or control the attack should it happen to you. Avoiding second hand smoke and of course that means not smoking at all as well.

Because our pets produce what is call “animal dander” from their skin, over time many people develop and allergy to their pets. And you guessed it, this also causes asthma attacks. Though avoidance of the pet here would be impossible for most people to accept, many just try to take better care of cleaning their home.

Dust mites are little creatures that are not visible to the naked eye, but are found in the cleanest of homes. They live and breed in pillows, mattresses, carpets, stuffed toys and similar items.

Mold is an asthma trigger quite common for some also. Mainly because mold is in most homes in America even newer homes. To control mold, you have to control moisture. Lower moisture levels will also help control dust mites and cockroaches. Remove existing mold completely. Fix leaky plumbing. Vent clothes dryers to the outdoors would help.

The droppings or body pats of pests like cockroaches or rodents can trigger asthma attacks. So you should never leave food or garbage out. Food should be stored in airtight containers. Clean up food crumbs or spills as soon as possible. Try using baits and traps to control pests before resorting to pesticide sprays. The sprays unfortunately can also trigger asthma.

A rapid decline in the barometric pressure from rather stable temperatures have also been documented as an asthma trigger. A hot climate with high humidity has also been documented as an asthma trigger.

If you or someone you know suffer from asthma it is important to take these steps to reduce the possibility of having an asthma attack. Should you or someone your know have an asthma attack you must summons the proper medical authorities immediately. Doing so could save your life or someone you love.
