Amazon.com Review Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), a group of psychological techniques developed in the early 1970s, has been a huge influence on today's motivational writers (particularly Tony Robbins). As its name suggests, NLP is based on the idea that the human mind is a sort of computer; our verbal and body language are the programming that allows us to change our thoughts and influence other people. Anneé Linden, director of an NLP training center in New York City, provides easy-to-understand descriptions of techniques such as mimicking someone's movements to create an instant sense of rapport and intimacy, or creating a conditioned response in yourself to feel certain emotions on demand. Some might find these techniques uncomfortably manipulative, but Linden says people do them on an unconscious level anyway; NLP is just a new way of coming to terms with what you already know.
Product Description Mindworks breaks open the toolbox of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to show readers how to use what s inside in order to accomplish goals and take control. Among the touchstones of the book: -You have all of the resources you need -Success is the ability to achieve intended results -You can turn failure into feedback -The map is not the territory -There is a positive intention behind every behavior -There are always more choices

Great practical introduction August 11, 1999 52 out of 53 found this review helpful
NLP can get pretty complicated with its extensive jargon and theories. Mindworks, by keeping in mind who its audience is, presents NLP in a easy-to-follow, personal style with loads of NLP techniques one can use immediately. The organization of the material is EXCELLENT; I really wish more NLP books would follow this sort of plan. Moreover, Anne Linden deftly uses real-world examples and short stories. Really, it's the clearest, most practical explanation I've ever read.
I recommend this one with NLP Comprehensive's "NLP: The Technology of Achievement." The only thing lacking with Mindworks is an extensive set of useful, thorough exercises which the latter book does offer. Read Mindworks for the theory, and "NLP: The Technology of Achievement" to practice it.
I have read a LOT of books on NLP... December 15, 1999 Gerry Thorpe (Toronto) 43 out of 47 found this review helpful
...this one is good for several reasons: 1. The chapters are short and to the point. 2. There is a large number of exercises that provide a way for you to explore and apply the techniques. All in all, this is one of the better NLP books I have read
Fabulous! January 2, 1999 Rob McCarter (Belmont, NC USA) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
As a licensed psychotherapist, I am constantly searching for tools to assist me in helping my clients "maximize their potentials." I have found the tools offered through Anne's book, "Mindworks" to be just what "the doctor (or shall I say, 'mechanic') ordered." Of all the NLP books I've read, this one IS the best. The author's writing style and frequent use of metaphor's greatly enhances the book's message and application. I plan to read and reference, "Mindworks" many times as I want to access Anne's many tools of wisdom. Thank you, Anne!
Understanding how you think can help change your behavior. November 3, 1997 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
If you've ever asked yourself "What was I thinking?" or wondered why you can't seem to change your behavior despite your best intentions, maybe it's time you understood your mind. When you learn how your mind works, you can identify and then change the behavior that's stopping you from reaching your goals. Called "an owner's manual for the mind," this straightforward, accessible book explains how to build a better life through understanding and directing the way your mind represents your experiences. The book is organized around the seven principle of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP, a psychological model based on the way the brain codes learning and experience. Anne Linden has organized the basic tools of NLP to into a hardware store of practical techniques that are easy to grasp and use. These include: communicating precisely; reading the reactions of others; creating "blueprints" for success; tapping inner resources; recycling mistakes; replacing destructive behavior; and changing your perspective in order to see hidden choices. The power of Mindworks lies in trying-not simply reading-the exercises that demonstrate these techniques. Admittedly this takes some diligence on the part of the reader, but with so many tools to choose from you will definitely walk away with one or two that will provide startling insights into your behavior and motives.
FANTASTIC!! October 30, 1999 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
I got this book two weeks ago and I am half way through the book~~ I have to say that I benefit tremondously from this book. It's not difficult to read and it gives practical exercises at the end of each chapter for readers to work on so that it'll be easier to grasp the concepts being taught. I give it a 2 thumb up. Good job Anne!! ^_^
