Product Description An engaging introduction to NLP, through 21 chapters, each focusing on a special topic: negotiation, resolving grief, parenting positively, motivation that works, fulfilling decision-making, and many more. (See Table of Contents.) This book gives you a "front-row seat" in following the accounts of people whose lives have been changed and whose dreams became reality by using their own inner power to change with NLP. Every reader is certain to find many topics of personal relevance. The authors include a step-by-step understanding of how each change occurred, that you can use for those areas in your life that you want to be different. Even though this book is written as an introduction, it takes you quickly into a great deal of depth. You'll find material here that isn't included in other books on NLP. The chapter on "Personal Timelines" for example, reveals how to easily uncover our individual ways of coding time, and how this sometimes forms the basis for our life struggles, and strengths. You'll learn how gently shifting this inner coding can melt away difficulties and open up talents and gifts. Written by two of the earliest and most respected trainers in the field, the book carries an underlying attitude of heartfulness coloring the skillful guidance available here. From the Publisher There is a new powerful and gentle approach to overcoming life's problems. Experience the accounts of people whose lives have been changed and whose dreams became realities by tapping their own inner power to change with NLP. Short for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, NLP is a new science that has studied how the mind works, with verifiable and sometimes astonishing results. NLP offers effective techniques for a wide range of problems including: unwanted habits, guilt, grief, weight loss, abuse, criticism, shame, stage fright, phobias. NLP also offers ways to enhance self-esteem, improve relationships, become more independent, create positive motivation, eliminate allergic responses, and promote self-healing, and more. Take a moment and look through the contents of a chapter that interests you. Every case describes what happened with a client or workshop participant. If you are tired of settling for the way things are and want more in your life, want more for your family and those important to you, read this book.

An excellent overview of NLP techniques October 4, 1998 34 out of 35 found this review helpful
This book contains 21 chapters, each of which deals with the application of NLP techniques to a particular problem. A couple of examples are given for each case. Chapter titles include "Learning To Spell", "Responding Resourcefully To Criticism", "Phobias, Traumas And Abuse", "Parenting Positively", "Resolving Grief", "Positive Motivation" and "Engaging Your Body's Natural Ability To Heal". So, a good reference book, equally good to dip into now and again or to read all the way through.
A practical book of NLP techniques January 9, 2002 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
If I am being selfish like my past, I would not have written this review to let you know that this is such a great book for personal change. I changed instantly after following a couple of the exercises explained in the book. After going through the exercise of "Fast Phobia Method" and "Recoding Past Unpleasant Experiences", it helped me to regain much of my self-confidence back, which was results of an unpleasant past. The book would not be an easy read for non-NLPers, but the authors did try very hard to explain the "how's" and "why's" of the exercises introduced in the book. More importantly, they picked those essential NLP techniques for life change, which makes the book invaluable. Although this is an NLP book from the eighties, IMHO, it sheds more lights than many of the more contemporary ones. I fully recommend this book if you want to use NLP to improve yourself. My advice is to work through those exercises that fit you and reflect on the resulted changes.
Excellent "How To" Guide for NLP November 24, 1998 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
Although books by Bandler & Grinder are "from the horse's mouth", this book presents a wide spectrum of applications complete with wonderfully explicit directions that virtually anyone can follow to achieve behavioral change. As a Master Practitioner of NLP, I have found this book to be a fabulous resource and frequently recommended it to clients who want to know more about Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
Better than Talk Therapy May 17, 2001 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I've been facinated with NLP for years. I tried reading and learning about it from R. Bandlier's books, but found them too complicated for me at this level. Heart of the Mind was exactly what I needed. It gives practical, easy to follow instructions that I can try on myself. It has 'encouraged' me to find an NLP practicioner to work with to help me with some of the techniques.
I recommend this book April 12, 2004 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
From my experiemce, some parts of Heart of the Mind tell how to do,and some others are inspirational and leave you some clues about how to do it.(english is my second language). Therefore for NLP Practitioners, the clues should be exciting enough to test wether you get good grasp on NLP but not for the non practitioners. However Heart of the Mind and Reframing helps me inspired and got rid of my asthma since I was a kid. By the way I did it myself. My guess is Heart of the Mind is meant to tell how far NLP can do for the welness of human being and provides some steps for you to do it yourself. I hope it is useful for you.
